Hell

(Numbers 32-33)
And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.
“They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.

What was the early Hell like? In the KJV, it is called “The Pit” or in other translations it is called “Sheol.” The Hell we have today with fire, worms, brimstone and perputual torture is nothing like the early Hell. The Semite, Greeks and Nordic tribes all had similar places for eternal punishment.
We got our Hell from the Nordic “Hel” and the Greek “Hades.” It started out as a simple undergr4ound holding tank for all souls, good and bad – no torture or joy. A few lucky ones like Enoch, Elijah and Jesus got to go straight to Heaven, body and soul. There was plenty of room in Heaven until the Catholic Church started selling admissions to anyone with money.
