God on Genocide and Massacres


(Exodus 32:27-28) And he said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay everyman his brother, and slay every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.
    And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.

(Deuteronomy 7:2,16) And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them:
     And thou shalt c
onsume all the people which the LORD thy God shall deliver thee; thine eye shall have no pity upon them:

(I Chronicles 21:14-15) So the LORD sent pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel severity thousand men.
     And God send an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the LORD beheld, and he repented of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand . . .

(Genesis 6:7) And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.


(I Samuel 15:2-3) Thus saith the Lord of hosts . . . Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.

(Deuteronomy 20:16-17) But of the cities of these people, which the LORD thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save nothing alive that breatheth:
     But thou shalt utterly destroy the . . . as the LORD thy god hath commanded thee.

(I Samuel 6:19) And he smote the men of Beth-Shemesh, because they had looked into the ark of the LORD, even he smote of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men; and the people lamented, because the LROD had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter.

(II Kings 19-35) And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp the Assyrians an hundred four-score and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning behold, they were all dead corpses.

(Genesis 19:24-25) Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;
     And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of those cities, and that which grew upon the ground.
