Is God Pro-Abortion?
Abortions
were never mentioned in the Bible. But that doesn't mean that we can't
explain why God is not against them. Unlike now, human life in Old Testament
times was not highly regarded. God order the extermination of whole tribes
and countries including the children. So you can't use the sanctity of
life as an excuse for being against abortions.
The god of the Old Testament did not hold
human life in very high regards, so it is reasonable that he would laugh
over our quibbling over abortions, birth control and stem cells.
The reason that abortions are not mentioned
is that women in those days were baby factories. With high death rates
and the need for labor and someone to take care of you in your declining
years, which happened much faster then. Babies were valuable commodities.
But they were only valuable if they were born healthy and were wanted.
If a baby was deformed, it was left in the desert to die.
Women's bodies and their babies were possessions
of the men. Would you abort a calf from a valuable milk cow? If a baby
was born deformed, it was left in the desert to die. They did not have
to resources to take care of deformed children and God did not say anything
against it. An abortion would have been more humane.
If a woman was raped and no one heard her
scream, she was killed along with the fetus. You could use this as a justification
for aborting raped women (only without killing the woman).
What
Does the Bible say About Abortion and the Sanctity of life?
“God's law makes
abortions a sin”
—
Archbishop Jose Cardoso Sobrinho (Brazil)
Will
someone please show me where that law is written?
When Does Life Begain?
The
Bible says in more than one place that life begains with breath,
not when two cells bump together. There are many passages in the Bible
that defines life as “breath" including:
(Genesis.
2:7) “God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and
man became a living soul.”
(Genesis 7:22)
“All in whose nostrils
was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died.”
If
you are anti-abortion, you can't use the Bible as a rational. That doesn't
mean that you can't be against abortions, but you are going to have to
use some other reason other than this. There are many non-believers who
are also anti-abortionist.
The reason that abortions are not mentioned
in the Bible is that women in those days were baby factories. Their bodies
and their babies were possessions of the men. Would you abort a calf from
a valuable milk cow? If a baby was born deformed, it was left in the desert
to die. They did not have to resources to take card of deformed children
and God did not say anything against it. An abortion would have been more
humane.
If
God feels strongly about abortion, why doesn't he condemn it in the Bible? You
can't even use the claim that the Bible is against killing little children.
In those days, children were possession that you could buy and sell.
The results of anti-abortion
Saying Christianity is doing a lot of good in Africa is preposterous.
The Bush administration accelerated the programs to finance the missionaries.
But, they are not allowed to teach birth control. Africa is overpopulated
and is going through a severe period of lack of food. But, Christian missionaries
deny Africans the infor- mation about birth control. This is a crime of
a major magnitude.
Does God value human
life?
Another reason the Bible shows that
God doesn't hold human life very sacrosanct is that God routinely orders
mass killings. There are too many to list all the passages but one is:
(I
Samuel. 15:2-3) “Thus saith the Lord of hosts . . . Now go
and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them
not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel
and ass.”

Here is How God Feels About
the Life of children:
(Psalm
137:9) “Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little
ones against the stones.”
(Ex. 20:5) “For I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting
the iniquity of the fathers upon the children on to the third and fourth
generation.”
(Numbers 31:17) “Now therefore kill every male among the
little ones.” (They kept the girls for slaves and concubines)
(Deut. 2:34) “. . . utterly destroy the men and the women
and the little ones.”
(Deut. 28:53) And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body,
the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters.
(I Sam. 15:3) . . . slay both man and woman, infant and suckling.
(II Kings 15:16) . . . all the women therein that were with child,
he ripped up. (Wouldn't an abortion have been more humane?)
(Isaiah. 13:16) Their children also shall be dashed to pieces
before their eyes.
(Isaiah. 13:18) They shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb;
their eyes shall not spare children.
(Lam. 2:20) Shall the women eat their fruit, and children.
(Hosea 9:14) . . . give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.
(Hosea 13:16) . . . their infants shall be dashed in pieces,
and their women with child shall be ripped up. (This is an abortion
that results in death of both mother and fetus.)
(II
Kings 8:12) “. . . dash
their children and rip up their women with child.” (Actually
this is just Elisha predicting what a future king of Aram [Syria] is going
to do to the Hebrews. But God is having him to do it to punish the Hebrews.)
(Psalms
137:9) “Happy
shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.”
This
is not just a normal abortion. Note that he doesn't just order the pregnet
women killed, he orders that they be ripped open for a slow, painful death.
(Ex.
21:22-25) “If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that
her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follows: he shall be surely
punished according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall
pay as the judges determine.” (The husband paid for the damage
to his property.)
